EQUAL VISION RECORDS 2011 MUSIC/TOUR VIDEO RECAP

So…while I started compiling my favorite EVR moments of 2011 I thought to myself, holy smokes we released a lot of music videos this year. And sifting through all of them on our YouTube Channel I realized we also have some really awesome and hilarious tour updates that still make me burst out laughing and/or crying to this day. Sometimes all at once. Anyways, I pulled a bunch of them  (okay…most of them) and compiled them into a month by month recap. I can’t believe it’s my job to put things like this together. Way too much fun. Here’s January 2011 - June 2011, I’ll have the second half posted soon. Enjoy!

We started the year off with a teaser for We Came As Romans’ Deluxe CD/DVD of To Plant A Seed

And then Mozart Season put out this tour update soon after. I think this footage might have been from when they were out on the road with letlive., not positive though. I still have one of the show posters from that 2010 tour hanging on the wall next to my desk haha.  I’m actually going to go listen to Nightmares right now. I miss Mozart Season.

In February, The Fall of Troy’s live performance at The Glasshouse in Pomona (in October 2009) was released on itunes. Purchase or rent it HERE.

In March we released Wild Orchid Children’s brilliant music video for ‘Ahead Of Us The Secret’ - the video itself being an hommage to the Beastie Boys. This band will blow your mind. Seriously.

We had our first SXSW showcase in YEARS this past March. It was an incredible and memorable day of music - including Gatsbys American Dream’s very first show back. Also performing on the lineup: Eisley, Wild Orchid Children, ORBS, This Time Next Year and our buds in Harvard.  We also teamed up with livestream to stream and film the show! I love SXSW.

I had never been to Ephrata, PA at the time this video update was filmed. But I have since been and I saw with my own two eyes that Texas In July’s hometown is in fact this adorable and old fashioned-like. Except their movie theater, which is all sorts of fancy and modern. Watching this also just made me miss the Texas In July dudes. Someone give them a high five for me if you’re at their show in Jermyn, PA tonight please. Thank you in advance.

In May, a video of Texas In July’s Adam Gray juggling and drumming simultaneously went viral. The video was cool…even cooler was him going on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to perform and impress Leno and William Shatner. Just another day in the life of Adam Gray. Here’s some of the backstage footage:

We also released music videos for Eisley’s “Smarter” and Life On Repeat’s “Struggle & Sleep”

And freakin’ Fairweather reunited this year. WHAT EVEN?! May was such an awesome month. Here’s a video of the band performing ”Whatever It Takes” at Black Cat:

In June, we announced signing I the Mighty with this emotional video. We can’t wait to share their music with you — stay tuned for release news. 2012 will be an exciting year for them! They’ll also be out touring the west coast with A Lot Like Birds and Just Like Vinyl (ex-Fall of Troy) in January, so be sure to show them some love on that tour!

I can’t really think of a better way to wrap up the first half of this list of 2011 video memories than with this Chiodos tour recap. We still watch this regularly in the office and crack up. And without fail Piebald’s “American Heart” gets stuck in my head. Every. Time. Not to mention how awesome this screen preview is. Nice face B haha :)

Part II…coming soon!

As mentioned before, we had technical difficulties at the show and unfortunately were unable to record sets from Wild Orchid Children and Harvard. Major bummer, but be sure to head over to their pages to hear their great tunes though!

SXSW Recap - part two!

While the line outside was growing down the street, our special guests for the night, Greensboro, NC’s Harvard, were inside sound checking (as This Time Next Year watched on).

I first heard about these guys in 2008 but this was my first time seeing them live and I was seriously blown away. Do yourself a favor and  check out this talented, talented band!

Following Harvard was our Walnut Creek, CA pop-punkers, This Time Next Year. The band has just wrapped up recording their sophomore full-length album with New Found Glory’s Chad Gilbert, which will be out later this year. They even performed “Drop Out Of Life”, a new song off of the upcoming album! Alternative Press recently posted an acoustic version of the song HERE and we’ll be posting their set on livestream soon as well!

With seven members, all of whom are percussionists, packed onto the stage, Wild Orchid Children rocked the house with their blend of trippy, swirling guitars and explosive percussion work. And Kirk’s vocals? Mind-numbingly captivating…pretty much a musical acid trip. I wish I could have caught their set at the SXSeattle showcase the following day. Bummed I missed it, but I heard it was an amazing show.

Next up were our mad musical scientists in ORBS. Comprised of Dan Briggs (Between The Buried And Me), Ashley Ellyllon (ex-Cradle of Filth/Abigail Williams), Adam Fisher and Goose Holyoak (Fear Before) and Chuck Johnson (Torch Runner), the group performed songs off of their latest release, Asleep Next To Science. I can’t even stand how good these guys (and gal) are. I can never get enough of them! Be sure to catch them on tour right now. Dates can be seen HERE.

And if this show wasn’t already bursting with great music and talent…Gatsbys American Dream played. Did you read that? GATSBYS. AMERICAN. DREAM. It was their first show in five years and I don’t think that I, or anyone that was at the show, has recovered from it yet. They were bouncing around the stage like they never left and the crowd was shouting the lyrics at the top of their lungs – even the two new songs! Not gonna lie, I spent the whole set trying to hide my ear-to-ear grin. Impossible. Their set was so much fun. Please stick around for awhile dudes, you’re so damn talented. If you haven’t heard their newest songs yet, be sure to check out “Modern Man” and “Untitled”.

Welcome back boys.

Our Tyler, TX darlings, Eisley, rounded out the evening with a set filled with older fan favorites as well as songs off of their new album, The Valley. I don’t know how they do it but their shows are always flawless – the music, their vocals, everything. Just flawless. Eisley was also our busiest band down at SXSW with an intense schedule of four full performances and at least three acoustic performances. If you still couldn’t get enough of them down in Austin, relive their set from PureVolume, which is featured HERE. The kind people at SPIN.com have also featured them as a hot new artist – check it out HERE!

And thank you again for everyone who attended, performed, sponsored, enjoyed the open bar, and watched the show online. You are all so wonderful and absolutely made my week. Thank you so much for being a part of our showcase!
