Set It Off - “Horrible Kids”
(Source: Spotify!)
Little thing I wrote up about my mom for altpress.com. Happy Mothers Day momma!
Mine is 4th from the end on the 3rd row.
Chris from Texas In July wrote about how awesome his momma is for AltPress’ Mother’s Day special (and check out the adorable photo with his mom and little sister)! Also featured in the article: Jesse and Jason from HRVRD, Dan from Set It Off, Reed from Tallhart, and Tom from For All I Am. Go read it! And then tell your mom that you love her.

New Empire - Give Me the World *Song is currently not on Spotify
These Australian dudes are going to be HUGE in the US pretty soon. I’ve been listening to them for a few months now after getting their full length online and can’t get enough of them. Looking forward to checking them out at Warped this summer.
Acceptance - In The Cold
I can never get enough of Acceptance when we’re on tour. I probably listen to Phantoms once a day and I definitely recommend this to anyone who just likes good music. Wish these guys were still around today!
The Dangerous Summer - The Permanent Rain
I have a really weird habit of falling in love with a band’s music once we tour with them. Permanent Rain really stuck with me after our March tour with TDS because one of my best friends died in a car accident in February and the lyrics of this song really hit home for me. Also, it’s a phenomenal song anyways so it’s easy to love.
Hans Zimmer - Chevaliers de Sangreal
This is probably not what you’re used to listening to. This is actually from Hans Zimmer’s Da Vinci Code score. It’s a beautiful piece and my personal favorite of his. I really recommend anything Hans Zimmer, especially the entire Inception soundtrack (which is the best work of music ever created in my mind). The way he continually adds new layers and progresses melodies throughout a cue really blow me away, this song especially.
I the Mighty - Escalators
Like I said, I almost always fall in love with bands we tour with. I’d heard ITM a little before we toured with them, but the EP they just released “Karma Never Sleeps” is definitely one of the breakout hits of 2012. Pick it up, it just came out on Equal Vision Records; I promise you’ll love the entire CD, this just happens to be my favorite off of it at the moment.
James Newton Howard - The Gravel Road
This is another piece from a movie soundtrack. This one is actually from The Village. I’m a sucker for a solo violin accompanied by a piano and this is just one of the prettiest songs I’ve ever heard. Its calming and helps me get through any tough or frustrating time when we’re on tour.
Michael Giacchino - The End *Song is currently not on Spotify
LOST, in my mind, is the greatest story to ever be told and Michael Giacchino’s music throughout the entire series is just absolutely amazing. The way he concluded the finale with this song really wraps up so many emotions for me (and I think any fan of the show) so I had to put this on this playlist. It’s a beautiful orchestral composition and I don’t think you have to be a fan of the show to appreciate that.
The Story So Far - Rally Cap
I think I’ve been sound checking my guitar with this song every show since I heard this song for the first time. Our entire band are huge TSSF fans and this once again came from touring with them. Under Soil and Dirt is definitely one of the best albums of 2011, but I think this song is definitely its best track and I can’t go a day without hearing it.
Yellowcard - Promises *Song is currently not on Spotify
If you know anything about me you probably know Yellowcard has been my favorite band since about 2003. I was late to hear this B-Side from WYTTSY, but the energy it has and the bridge drew me in instantly (as all of their songs do) and its one of my favorites from them. I will absolutely be watching every set of theirs I can on Warped.
Yellowcard - Be The Young
I think this one is kind of obvious. Yellowcard obviously knows how to write a solid slow song and this is no exception. The first time I heard this we were getting home from a tour and I just kept it on repeat for the last four or five hours of the drive. (Side note: I could do an entire YC playlist but that wouldn’t be fair to all the other great songs I want you to check out in this, and of course all of their pre-hiatus stuff is amazing too, but I tried to focus on some of the newer stuff in case you hadn’t gotten around to listening to it)So this playlist is basically just a collection of songs that at any given point during a day on tour, I’m probably listening to. I definitely recommend listening to any or all of these if you haven’t heard them. Some of them might be outside your usual listening genre but they’re good! I swear. - Matt Morgan

Five Iron Frenzy - Anchors Away
Five Iron Frenzy is the first band with distorted guitars that I ever got into. Their song “Anchors Away” has incredible melodies and is really emotionally dark with witty lyrics. The overall mood/energy of the song really gets my mind stirring for those late night drives.
Michael Bublé - All Of Me
“All Of Me” is a great jazz standard from the early 1930s and Michael Buble did a near flawless arrangement on his CD “Crazy Love”. It’s constantly stuck in my head right now. I actually incorporated it into my warm up recently because of how much fun it is to sing. - Cody Carson
blink-182 - What’s My Age Again?
Not only is this one of my favorite songs, but it holds the most meaning for me. This was the first pop punk song I ever heard. It was the foundation for my music taste. It was the song that made me want to start playing drums. It’s catchy, upbeat, and full of angst. It will always hold a place in my heart.

SET IT OFF ANNOUNCES
SPRING HEADLINING TOUR
PLANS TO RELEASE DEBUT
FULL-LENGTH ALBUM IN SUMMER 2012

Tampa, FL’s Set It Off has announced that this Spring they will co-headline a US tour with Divided By Friday.
Set It Off has also announced new tour dates with Equal Vision Records’ labelmates Life On Repeat and Glass Cloud (ft. Jerry Roush, ex-Of Mice & Men/Sky Eats Airplane and Joshua Travis, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza) following their appearances at SXSW. All three bands will perform at the recently announced Equal Vision Records Showcase on Friday, March 16 at Lucky 13 (418 E 6th St, at Neches St). Co-headlining the showcase will be Say Anything and We Came As Romans. The complete lineup and set times can be seen below.
Last week, Set It Off completed the recording of their debut full-length album, after four weeks in the studio with producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount [All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Cartel]. Though an official release date has not been set, the album is expected to be released in Summer 2012.
In addition to weekly studio video updates posted by the band on YouTube.com/setitoffband, frontman Cody Carson recently did an in-depth interview revealing details of the writing and recording process with Alternative Press.
In the interview, Carson explains that the new album will feature Set It Off’s signature sound of orchestra-infused pop with a new sense of heaviness, diversity and intensity in the album, both lyrically and musically. He elaborates, “What’s really present on this album…we’re very theatrical when we present our story. If it’s a darker subject, there is a lot of angst and neurosis that goes into that song…In fact, in one song, Zack and Ken think I sound like the Joker from The Dark Knight. Not that I’m going for that, I just really try to get into character for each song as far as the mood goes. It has that diversity, but it still sounds like Set It Off.”
“We made a list, and we had to figure out which song is serving which purpose on the album. Do we have a song that’ll take people on an emotional ride? Do we have a song that’s really energetic and in-your-face?…A lot of people will release an album and have every song sound like, “Yes, that’s their band,” but they don’t necessarily have songs that take you on a whole ride. That’s what we’re really focusing on,” Carson explained. “If people are going to buy our album, we want to make sure that people are going to feel like they’re hearing an entire story or sitting down for a movie.” The interview can be read in full HERE.

EVR SPRING 2012 SAMPLER AVAILABLE NOW DEBUTING NEW SONGS FROM TALLHART, GLASS CLOUD AND LIFE ON REPEAT
On Friday, March 16, Equal Vision Records will host their label showcase in Austin, TX at SXSW 2012. Performing at the free, all-ages event will be Say Anything, who will release Anarchy, My Dear, their new full-length album and Equal Vision Records debut, on March 13th.
Earlier this week, Rolling Stone Magazine premiered the band’s new song “So Good” as a free download on their website.
Co-headlining the show will be We Came As Romans. The Detroit, MI-based band is currently featured on the cover of Alternative Press’ ‘100 Bands You Need To Know in 2012’ issue, which is available now for pre-order and will be on newsstands March 6th. Also appearing in the issue are labelmates I the Mighty, Glass Cloud, For All I Am and Ghost Thrower.

We Came As Romans just recently returned from tours in Europe and Japan and will kick off The Fire and Ice Tour, a full US headlining run in support of their recently released album Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be, on Friday, March 9th in Covington, KY.
Sharing the stage with Say Anything and We Came As Romans will be Glass Cloud, Life On Repeat, Set It Off, Ghost Thrower, I the Mighty, and The Soroka Agency’s special guest Young Statues. The event begins at noon in the newly established venue Lucky 13 (418 E 6th St at Neches St).
In anticipation of SXSW, Equal Vision Records is streaming their new Spring sampler on facebook.com/equalvision, with tracks by Say Anything, Eisley and I the Mighty, as well the debut of new songs from TALLHART, Life On Repeat and Glass Cloud.
Among the premieres is a lyric video for “White Flag” - the first song ever released by Glass Cloud, which is fronted by Jerry Roush (ex-Of Mice & Men/Sky Eats Airplane). On March 20th, the newly formed band will put out a two-song digital release of “White Flag” and “Counting Sheep” (via iTunes, Amazon, etc.) and will release a full-length album later this year. In addition to SXSW, Glass Cloud will perform at festivals such as New England Metal Fest, Jamboree, Never Say Never, South By So What and on the Road To Metal Fest Tour with headliners Iwrestledabearonce.
Similarly, TALLHART’s new song “Fever (Sister of Mine)” will be released via digital retailers on March 6th with a new EP to follow this Spring. Details for the EP release will be announced soon. TALLHART is the first band signed to Rory Records, Max Bemis of Say Anything’s imprint label on Equal Vision Records. The Tampa, FL-based indie quartet will be on tour with Eisley in March, followed by dates with Say Anything in April.
